Schools Unit (CSU)

The City of Barrie presently has 38 Elementary Schools and 9 Secondary Schools.

Educational awareness and safety programs are taught by officers in elementary, high school, college and adult learning centres. Public, separate and private school students are given accurate and up to date information providing the basis for informed personal choices. The schools unit operates such programs as V.I.P. (Values, Influences and Peers).

The Schools Unit also employs school liaison officers who attend at Elementary and Secondary Schools, to provide law enforcement when required, address school and/or student issues, participate as a resource person in classroom discussions, assist with the Safe Schools Act and provide guidance and direction to students, parents and teachers.

These Officers provide the opportunity for students to form a better understanding of the role of a police officer in the community and the individual citizen's responsibility to the community, the law and the enforcement of the law.
