Early this evening police were dispatched to a downtown LCBO in regards to a shoplifter in custody. The 24 year old male was observed by security concealing a 375ml bottle of spiced rum. He then purchased a 500ml can of beer before exiting the premise without making any attempt to pay for the bottle of rum which he had concealed in his pants. Security then apprehended the male and contacted Barrie Police.
Investigation by Police revealed the male was currently on charges for Theft Under $5000.00 and on Probation for Robbery with a Weapon. A condition of the Probation Order was that he keep the peace and be of good behaviour, which he was clearly failing to comply with.
The male was charged with Theft Under $5000.00 and Breach of Probation.
He was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters and held pending Wash Court.

At approximately 2am this morning , a 25 year old Barrie resident was observed by police making an illegal right hand turn at the five points of downtown Barrie. The officer subsequently conducted a traffic stop of the motorist and investigated the male. Through investigation it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The male was transported back to the Police station where he provided samples of his breath, resulting in readings of two in a half times the legal limit. The male faces a future court date.
