In January 2010, the Barrie Police Service partnered with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) Regional Enforcement Unit – Orillia to formulate a strategic response to ensure compliance under the Liquor Licence Act in the City of Barrie.
On January 15th and 16th, 2010, officers from the Barrie Police Street Crime Unit, High Enforcement Action Team and AGCO’s Enforcement Inspectors began a two-day Liquor Licence Act enforcement initiative.
During the two-day initiative, officers focused on identifying infractions at the licensed premises that place the community at risk. Investigators concentrated on offences relating to intoxication, overcrowding, serving minors and disorderly behavior.
With the use of undercover officers, over 30 licensed premises were investigated during the course of this investigation. As a result, five (5) licensed premises were charged with a total of 50 Liquor Licence Act violations.
The following licensed premises were charged under the Liquor Licence Act:
British Arms Pub
• Licensee permit drunkenness
• Sell/Serve to intoxicated person
Crossovers Entertainment (Barrie) Ltd.
• Licensee permit drunkenness
Misty’s Cafe
• Licensee permit drunkenness
• Sell/Serve to intoxicated person
Mullies Bar & Grill
• Sell/Serve to an apparent minor
• Fail to verify identification of
an apparent minor
The Bank
• Licensee permit drunkenness
• Fail to verify identification of
an apparent minor
• Sell/Serve to intoxicated Person
Further to the charges against the Licensed Premises, Barrie Police laid an additional nine (9) Provincial Offence Tickets to the various patrons investigated during this enforcement initiative.
Offences included:
• Being intoxicated in public place
• Under 19 years consume liquor
• Presenting Identification not
lawfully issued to person
• Person under 19 years, enter
licensed premise
Defendants are scheduled to appear on March 5th, 2010 at Provincial Offences Court – Barrie.
